Show season Begins!
I am really excited to be accepted to The Live Oak Park Fair! The dates are June 9 & 10 . It’s in a beautiful park in Berkeley CA and has been an exciting event for over 20 years. It’s put on by one of the premier craft show producers so it promises to be a great weekend for artists as well as all the folks who attend. There is no fee to attend so … Read entire article »

Pardon the dust, or rather the little bits and pieces of thread and fabric and things laying around, as I create the new website! I’m excited about this new space and looking forward … Read more »

Girls are super-heroes, too!
I love cartoon/comic fabrics…I have vintage fabrics which I’ve found over the years and use, in the most miserly way possible. Recently I was in a major retail fabric store and found, and fell in love with some Star Wars Fabric. Odd, I know, but it’s colorful and comic-like without being cartoony. The graphics are the (by now) vintage pictures … Read entire article »
Artistic Community Building
This year I decided to expand my show applications. All of the shows are juried which means, as expected, there is a fee. It’s a smallish financial risk, depending upon how many shows one applies to, of course. All the shows charge them, except one, which has staid the jury fee. I believe it is part of what this show’s presenter’s philosophy is, one which she just told me as we were talking this afternoon. I repeated to her how, when her name came up amongst artists at other shows, each and every one stopped, smiled and said “Oh I love Jan. I love working with her”. She runs two of the largest, and longest … Read entire article »
Me And My Fabric
I am mad for my fabrics. I realize I’ve anthropomorphized them. They really feel personal to me, They feel alive. I think of what they can become as though I am creating with fabric-personalities. I hear myself, not like in “I hear voices” hear, but in thinking about how certain fabrics and materials will, or won’t ‘get along’. I have come … Read entire article »
Makin’ it through the Shows…
I did it, made it through the happy-hollow(sic) day show season. I had the generous help and support of my family and friends and we got all things organized, packed, loaded into trucks ‘n stuff, arrived at venues, set ups done, sale days passed, then on to the deconstruction and ready for the next of them. In and amongst all … Read entire article »
Frida Kahlo and The Back-ups
I am on the last, for the moment last, Frida Kahlo bags for the first show. They tend to sell well and they sew up nicely. The fabric is really good cotton with vibrant colors and interesting patterns. It’s not my favorite, I am sad to say. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate what I know of her personal challenges … Read entire article »
Birthday Fabric
I am always on the hunt for fabric. It is the first area of the junk stores I go to, I get too nervous that I might Miss some great and odd piece of fabric. Once I have satisfied myself that I’ve seen, and/or, gotten what’s there that I want, I can move on to the search for dresses with … Read entire article »
It’s Show Time!
I am finally, I hope, in Craft Fair Production mode. Lucky for me there is a month in between the shows so I can replenish stock. The two shows, while not wildly different are still different enough that what appeals to one audience needs some tweaking to meet the shopping desires of the other. The feel of the two shows is … Read entire article »
Buttons
Buttons… I Love buttons. Like many people my mother had a container of buttons. Mostly the ones which come in little plastic bags attached to suits, or random buttons which seem to show up, or buttons cut off clothing to be discarded. I liked that container, it made me yearn for More, More Buttons. And then they started to find me, in … Read entire article »
Pardon The Dust!
Pardon the dust, or rather the little bits and pieces of thread and fabric and things laying around, as I create the new website! I’m excited about this new space and looking forward to some gallery space, a calendar of events and shows and a place to talk about what I do, how I do it and the fun things I find in my travels! I imagine a place that is ever evolving and that works in conjunction with my Etsy site! So keep an eye out for some exciting new changes! … Read entire article »
